Unfortunately, this post is not about the Hans Christian Anderson classic children story. It’s about Philip Linden’s new and updated old look. Recently, Second Life announced the winner of their Philip Linden Makeover Contest in their blog. The winning Philip Linden look was from a Second Life resident named Mars Absent.

The winning look was later called Philip Linden 2.0 but it’s really just a 2010 update to the original Philip Linden look because it didn’t entirely change. Mars Absent’s Philip Linden look still uses the classic Philip Linden look and style with better skin, hair and outfit. Read the rest of this entry »

The fall out of the Emerald Viewer gave birth to other Third Party Viewers and one of this is the Ascent Viewer. Unlike the Phoenix Viewer which is a fork of the Emerald Viewer, the Ascent Viewer is a fork of the Inertia Viewer which is a viewer that has griefing and copybot features. These features are no longer present or available in the Ascent Viewer. Also, the Ascent Viewer complies with Linden Lab’s Third Party Viewer Policy and it is listed in Second Life’s Third Party Viewer Directory.

The Ascent Viewer was developed to give expanded control to content creators, developers and estate managers with features adopted from other popular third party viewers. It is being developed mainly by two Second Life residents, Hg Beeks and Charley Levenque with Belaya Statosky in charge of the official Ascent Viewer Mac Build. They are also committed in providing a viewer that is fast, efficient and stable enough for everyone to use. Read the rest of this entry »

The popular Emerald Viewer became more popular when they added the Bouncing Boobs feature. As the name implies, this feature gives female avatars in Second Life the ability to make their breast or boobs bounce or jiggle when they move. Obviously, this feature was inherited by the Phoenix Viewer which is simply a renamed version of the Emerald Viewer.

The bouncing boobs feature or enhanced physics on avatar breast feature is turned off by default. You can turn it on in the Preferences window. To open the Preferences window you can either click on Edit on the Top Menu then Preferences or you can press CTRL-P. Read the rest of this entry »

When the Emerald Viewer went bad, LordGregGreg Back took the initiative and immediately released his own fork of the Emerald Viewer which he named Emergence Viewer. According to LGG, it is basically just a clone of the latest Emerald Viewer source code that he had and was produced with binaries from trusted sources such as Linden Labs or OpenJPEG and himself.

LGG also self certified that the Emergence Viewer follows Linden Lab’s Third Party Viewer Policy and that using it to connect to Second Life’s Grid is legal. He also promised, to the best of his knowledge, that the Emergence Viewer is free from malware or any hidden code. For me, LGG’s words are good enough to trust the Emergence Viewer. The only problem with the Emergence Viewer is that it will only be updated if it’s absolutely necessary. Read the rest of this entry »

A couple of months ago, the Emerald Viewer Development Team had a falling out. Because of this, the Emerald Viewer project died horribly. One or two members of the Emerald Viewer Team were also banned from Second Life and the viewer itself was permanently blocked from accessing the Second Life grid. Indeed, it was a sad day for all of those residents who trusted the Emerald Viewer team.

Fortunately, a few remaining trustworthy people on the Emerald Viewer team banded together and started a new Second Life Viewer Project. They forked the Emerald Viewer source code and renamed it the Phoenix Viewer which was basically just the Emerald Viewer reborn. Read the rest of this entry »
