Today, I took a quick look at AVINATION. It’s a Second Life alternative 3D Virtual World where people can meet, play, create, have fun and, hopefully, make some money by running virtual businesses. In other words, it basically has the same premise as Second Life or any other 3D Virtual Worlds which is “meet, create and enjoy” (something like that).
I learned about Avination from a Second Life friend who happened to mentioned it in one of his e-mails to me. Curious as to what Avination is, I decided to check it out myself and my first impression of Avination was good because they have a very NEAT looking website.
The sign-up process was very easy as well. They have these easy to follow step-by-step process that just makes the entire thing seems effortless. No kidding, it’s so amazingly easy that you can do it blindfolded. An e-mail with an activation link will be sent to you. Just access your e-mail and click on the activation link to finalize the sign-up process.
Once you are signed up, you can choose to link your Avination account with your Second Life account by simply touching an Avination ATM in Second Life. That is, if you have an account in Second Life but if you don’t then you can skip the linking process. Also, even if you do have an account in Second Life, you can choose not to link them at all. It’s totally optional.
Now, you are ready to login to Avination. You can use your favorite Second Life Third Party Viewer to login or you can download, install and use the official Avination Viewer. The Avination Viewer is the viewer that I used when I checked out Avination. If my guess is correct, I think the Avination Viewer is based on Snowglobe.
Logging in to Avination was quick but it did take a few minutes for everything to rez and, as with most OpenSim powered virtual world grids, lag spikes were expected. The lag wasn’t that bad which means you can move around with no problems but you’ll feel it eventually.
Avination’s Welcome Area has a Mall where I was able to grab some Free Hairs and a nice pair of shoes. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find many free items there and there weren’t many items for sale either. Besides, even if there were many items for sale, newbies won’t have money to buy them anyway.
Below are screenshots of my avatar in Avination’s Welcome Area.

This is my avatar in Avination and his name is Kabalyero Kidd as well. You can use the name of your Avatar in Second Life in Avination by linking it to your Avination account.

Just looking at some SFD items. The pair of shoes above is FREE! Go get it before they start charging you for it.

Don’t you just love looking at empty halls. It just looks so nice, clean and peaceful.

OMG! Free Hairs. Don’t forget to grab yourself a copy because you will never know when they’ll start charging.

Don’t be afraid. That’s just my avatar’s face in Avination. Seriously, I don’t understand why can’t they give us better looking newbie avatars. The same goes with Second Life. I guess they want us to spend money on our avatars. Why not? Avatar customization and fashion are big money makers in any virtual world.

Hey look! It’s a freaking Billboard! LOL!

Dance Balls! At least they didn’t forget how to PARTY!

I need to get me one of those FREE sim. 12 months for FREE! Awesome! Unfortunately, it’s a contest. T_T

There is something wrong with the floor. Just look at my avatar. He is planted knee deep into it. Ha ha ha! Well, that’s a common thing with OpenSim based virtual worlds.
My quick look at Avination started and ended at the Welcome Area. If you would like to check it out then simply visit their website at http://www.avination.com. Sign-up for a FREE account, download and install the Avination Viewer, login and have a look around.
