St. Patrick’s Day is only a couple of days away and another great opportunity to boost your sales.
We’re doing something a little new to expose your St. Patrick’s Day listings to shoppers. We have a St. Patrick’s Day Category and a St. Patrick’s Day Tag — tagStPatricksDay.
We want you to tag anything St. Patrick’s Day related by putting tagStPatricksDay at the end of your listing description. This includes any items listed in the St. Patrick’s Day category. If your listings fit somewhere in the standard category hierarchy, you can leave them there. If not, or if you’re not sure, place them in the St. Patrick’s Day category. Read the rest of this entry »
I wanted to give everyone one some notice on the upcoming server refactoring everyone has been hearing about. According to Melanie and Diva, the coding is complete on their server changes. This means several things for OSgrid, not all of which i will discuss right now, we are currently formulating plans on how to proceed forward. We ask that you all bear with us while we do some testing behind the scenes to prepare for all of these changes, some are drastic, some you wont even notice at all. Likely in the coming weeks you will see changes to the website and the simulator software, but we will do our best to help everyone prepare and step through it.
That is about all i can say for right now, but in the mean time its best to not update past the current OSgrid release version, or anything you are currently running today prior to GIT REV a9580ebb496637323548b75c2bda605790b18a6b (r/12335) as this version is the no longer compatible with OSgrid until we can complete the back end updates. I recently got a request from a company that was looking for examples of interactive human body exhibits in Second Life – like a beating heart or interactive blood flow.
The closest I know about is a 50′ high model of an interactive human larynx (SLURL) done by Don Bickley of NMU (see and read more about it on this blog post). However, there are a number of resources for science and health-related projects in Second Life.
Shortly we enter a planned maintenance window I’ve provided information about this maintenance window for everyone’s concenvience below.
February planned maintenance.
- Migration of all services to new PNAP network. (This is a faster higher speed network better suited to delivering Openlife requirements globally see network post for more test results)
-Heavy Database maintenance in preparation for next Openlife server version. This is a prerequisite to installing our next server release which features a substantial bundle of fixes and service enhancements.
- All regions server refresh. We are replacing all servers operating Openlife regions with brand new equipment. (This also raises the generation of Openlife Region servers). Read the rest of this entry »
But, what you don’t see are all of the fulfilled Resident requests behind the scenes.
From bug reports to Resident wish lists, some requests came directly to our Development team from Residents through the Public issue tracker (PJIRA), and some came their way via Resident interactions with our Support team. The common thread among all of these Resident-driven directives is that you asked, voted, and got them in Viewer 2. Here are some of the biggies that we’ve already taken care of for you: Read the rest of this entry »
This past Tuesday, we released Viewer 2 Beta to the public. To give you some insight into the work that went into the renovation of the viewer, I want to give you a quick guided tour below. But first, a few important headlines:
This is a Beta. We’re still fixing bugs and massaging the UI based on your feedback, but there likely won’t be major functionality changes between now and when it becomes the default viewer. However…
We’ll be going back to more regular releases from here on. This means more frequent releases (hopefully quarterly), each with a more manageable amount of new features.
There’s lots of new stuff in Viewer 2, not the least of which is a new user interface. Also check out Shared Media, new Navigation controls, and new avatar capabilities like a tatoo layer and alpha textures.
We have also released the source code to Viewer 2 via our Snowglobe project.
Thanks for trying out Second Life’s new Viewer 2 Beta! Most of the initial feedback has been very positive (thank you, thank you), but we’ve also received a lot of comments from Residents who had trouble with the new UI, identified bugs, or wanted to request new features. To cover a few of the most frequently raised points from yesterday, we’ve put together the list below with some additional information to assist you. Most of the information we share below can also be found in the following places:
Linden Lab finally released the Beta version of Second Life’s latest viewer which is simply called Second Life Viewer 2 Beta. I have been seeing the login notice about it but only had the time to download it today. The setup or install file isn’t very big. It’s around 23 MB which is almost the same size as the normal viewer, snowglobe and the many alternative viewers. Downloaded it and installed it afterwards.
Running the new viewer the first time, I must say that I am very much impress at the way it looks. It’s more professional looking and gone are the beveled buttons. Unfortunately, I didn’t run it very long. The new interface looks so foreign to me that I was literally feeling my way around it. Although, I was able to setup my graphics settings and other preferences during that brief 5 minutes of running it. Read the rest of this entry »
The Viewer 2 Beta is finally here, and with it comes a whole host of amazing improvements and new features. There’s so much to be excited about that it’s impossible (and unnecessary!) to pick a favorite. But — if I really had to pick — I’d choose Shared Media, since I’m the Product Manager for Shared Media. So, let me tell you about it.
Shared Media Brings the Web Into Second Life
Second Life Shared Media, a new Viewer 2 capability, makes sharing standard Web-based media in Second Life easy and seamless. It enables content creators to make more compelling, interactive experiences. Basically, Shared Media brings the Internet inworld. Read the rest of this entry »
With a lovely new Viewer comes many questions… and the answers you hope for. I know, some of it’s the proverbial “takes time to get used to”, but like a fitting DJ remix of a dancefloor classic, I believe underneath the shiny armor, you’ll find lots to snuggle up with. <3
Let me say this: Viewer 2 doesn’t only deliver on some mythological promises (hello web-on-a-prim!), we’ve endowed it with the BEST HELP SYSTEM in a Second Life Viewer yet. Read the rest of this entry »
